The Old Crabber

The sun was barely above the horizon when the crabber untied his boat and set himself free from the solid ground. With each wave he crossed, heading dead set sea, marked a greater distance between him and everything to try to to with him. With every crest, he was a bit further faraway from is house. The old spluttering engine took him ten miles faraway from the port, and as he shut it off the land from which he’d come was hardly visible. Now he only felt reception on the ocean. The sea’s smell carried his memories, its openness formed his walls, his pictures were made up of the sunshine which danced over the waves. He dropped his two lines off both sides of his boat and sat back. the ocean was calm and the early morning sun, still low within the sky, edged its way towards him over the haphazard water. the ocean was where he could think. Not that he was a thinking man. Really he was a rememberer. The crabber never thought in the long run, never worried financially or planned carefully. He thought back. He remembered. And on the ocean, free from conditions of your time and place, his memories could fill his whole vision. Without another person around he had an entire world to himself.

Chapter 2

The little light from the earth’s moon shone down onto Luna as she emerged from the darkness of the portal. They were surrounded by a bunch of trees with a little pond next to where the portal was. Birds and squirrels chattering up above with some landing on the ground and then going straight back up. They had never seen any of this stuff before. Malta was out farther than the others, patrolling the area, while Sky and Edith were waiting by the portal for Luna to appear.

“Where are we right now?” Malta asked rather loudly.

    ‘’Um, Earth.”

“You know that isn’t what I meant, Luna. I know different parts of this earth have different names. Which one are we in?” Malta growled. She was very tense because of the situation.

“I don’t know. It’s not like I can just look at the things around us and now. Everything around us is in a lot of places on earth.” Luna said as she glanced around at the surrounding area.

Luna looked at Sky and Edith, knowing they were probably seeing the majority of their goddesses label. Sky was glancing from the moon and stars, and occasionally taking a glance at her sister, Luna. She was probably wondering why Luna was not in awe at the stars she was gifted. Edith had a squirrel and two or three birds around her as she petted each one while her smile got bigger and bigger. They were happy for now, that was all that was important to Luna.

   “This is very…strange.”Malta said uneasily.

“It’s strange to all of us, Malta.”Luna pointed out.“none of us are ready for this completely.”

“I know, It is just…familiar…the darkness of this place. I thought it was brighter?” Malta stated as she glanced all around them.

“It is a bright place, especially when it is the hottest time of their year. We just came when it was night time for them when the galaxy’s beauty shines down to them. Anyway, It isn’t that dark with the light of the moon, as well as the portal’s light.”Luna exclaimed.

As if the portal heard her say that, the wind started to howl as the portal spun and it got smaller and smaller until no more light was there.

They were officially stuck on earth.

Luna looked at the others as they all looked at her, they knew there was no turning back now they had to start the mission.

“Ok, we are on earth now. We…need to find this human high school my mother told us we needed to go to.”Luna sighed.

“Hold up,” Edith started.“We don’t know one, where we need to go. And two, we have no clue how to act like a human. What are we going to do about that, huh.”

“First off, don’t get mad at me just because we are all tense and nervous about this whole thing. Secondly, I know how humans are. Just let me talk first and after you learn more, then you can act like them as well.”Luna said as calmly as possible.

“Ok, so we just stay quiet and not talk. Who does that!”

“A lot of humans teens do, Edith, you guys will fit in.” Luna smirked.

“What about the direction of this school?”Malta asked.

“That…I don’t know. But I’m sure my mother will show us somehow.”Luna tried to say confidently.

“Couldn’t she just open the portal and give us instructions on where to go and what to do?”Edith protested.

“Edith, they…cant open the portal again,” Malta said before Luna was able to think of what to say.

“What!”Edith exclaimed startled, “You mean we are actually stuck down here!”

“The portal room wasn’t made to be used more than once, and it takes a long time to use it again. For anyone to open it again sooner than ready, they would be drained of their energy and power.”Luna said looking down at the earth’s ground.

“But how are we going to get back home when we find Shadow?”Sky asked concerned.

“…To be honest with you, sis, I don’t know.”Luna said hesitantly.

Everyone was silent. They had no idea what to do now that they knew they were actually stuck on earth.

Light from the moon and stars disappeared as a new light emerged from the hills ahead of the girls. The earth’s sun.

    “Guys look!”Luna squealed.

“What? It’s just the earth’s sun.”Malta said confused.

“Hello, my mom is the goddess of light, Malta.”Luna said excitedly.“This is her way of telling us where to go!”

“OK, I don’t know much about the human’s sun, but I am pretty sure it stays on the same path every day down here. It always rises from that side of the planet.”Malta pointed out.

“I know this, but right now this is our best bet.C’ mon Malta, we have to at least try it.”Luna protested.

Malta stood there for a second and finally rolled her eyes and nodded. Luna was about to take off towards the sun when she stopped dead in her tracks.

“Wait a minute. We almost forgot to hide our goddess stuff.”

“What do you mean?”Malta asked puzzled.

“We need to look like humans. Hide your wings, ears, and tails. Oh, and also change your pupils to be round and black.”Luna stated.

They all made a wall around them with their goddess power. Clouds around Sky, leaves, and flowers around Edith, a fireball covering Malta, and a nebula around Luna. Luna felt weird taking away her wings, ears, and tail only to replace them with human body parts. It was different but necessary. She was almost done when she realized the others most likely didn’t know what humans looked like without a reference. Luna sighed and prepared to roll her eyes at what they created… or to laugh at them.

Mike, The Flying Cow

Once there was a cow named Mike. Mike loved to watch the birds fly in the sky on warm days. He always wanted to learn how to fly but he couldn’t find a way. Mike reached for HOURS at a time just to find an answer to his question-Can a cow fly? All his friends wanted to help him try to fly but didn’t know how.

He was researching one day on his laptop, how to make a cow fly.Nothing came up, but he was determined to find a way to fly by the end of the day.

After hours of searching and watching videos of people flying he got an idea… HE WOULD MAKE WINGS! But how?

After a few days, he tried to start building his wings, but every try he just failed. He tried and tried and tried but every try failed. So he gave up. His friends saw how sad he was and decided they were gonna cheer him up.

After a few days of trying to think of a way to cheer Mike up they finally thought of something. They were gonna make him wings so he could fly. It took them about 5 days to make wings for MIke. When Mike saw them he got the biggest smile.

Mike got his wish to fly and that’s all that mattered to him. He could now fly with the birds and and go everywhere faster.

THE END!!!

Four Things I Want to be When I Grow Up

When I grow up I want to be a soccer player, a surgeon, a family doctor, or a shoe designer.

If I were a pro soccer player I would be the best in the world. With all my fame and money I would donate to the people in need and this school so they can get water fountains. With my fame, I would flex on the haters.

The second thing I want to be is a surgeon. I want to be a surgeon because I want to see what the inside of a person’s body looks like. A second reason I want to be a surgeon is it looks fun. I think it would be fun because you get to slice a person and think of the check that you will get after.

The third job is a family doctor. I want to be a doctor because if I have kids or if anyone that I know gets sick I know what to give them. A second reason is I want people to know I’m rich and smart when they call me Doctor Brim.

The final thing I want to be when I grow up is a shoe designer. I want to be a shoe designer because I could use my creativity and fix and make new shoes. The second reason the main reason is so I could go around unreleased shoes and brag about the price and how they will never get their feet near them.

Finka ask ” can I use a radio?”

Wesley yelled,” we need to get out of here come follow me.”

“What if it’s the cure?” asked John

“No, it is not I just got the news that its a real nuke we need to move” panicked Wesley. Then they all ran to the plane and flew up into the air. Suddenly the nuke exploded multiple planes went down.

Chapter 2: The Escape

I was ready, it has been 30 minutes since the people who took me left. I bust down the wooden door separating me from the outside world.  I run down the stairs, I suddenly slow down and start to think about Berkeley, my mom, my dad, and all my teachers, I took myself away from them, this was all my fault. I didn’t stop it, I didn’t fight back, because of my choices, I was left here…. Stranded.

I reach for the rail catching my balance. I need to get back on schedule. I make my way down the stairs, go to where the cameras are and erase all the evidence of me coming down. I unplug the cameras and then move on. I search high and low for my phone, I go to the safe that’s hidden in the living room and bust it open, I know where it is because I’ve been listening to them through the air vents. I find all my belongings and $500. I take my iPhone 5c, the money, and then take a look around. This has been my home for 5 years, I’ve been trapped inside a tiny room with one window, being fed soggy oatmeal, old tuna sandwiches, and moldy bread every day for 5 years.

I run to the kitchen I open up the pantry grab expired orange juice and uncooked mac n’ cheese. I go to open the door, but when I get up to it I hear the garage door open, I stand there frozen I don’t know what to do, I just stand there totally vulnerable.

The doorknob jiggles while I stand there in shock, I quickly run to the nearest room to hide, I slip into a dark corner waiting for them to come in. The old wooden door creaks open, I bury myself deeper into the deep, dark corner. The mans heavy footsteps get louder and louder as he approaches the room I’m in, I start to lose air and start to breathe heavily, the footsteps stop, the floor in front of me creeks. My eyes close and I hear a grandfather clock softly clicking. When I wake up I appear in the hospital, the clicking of the clock gets louder and louder as the sound of feet come toward me. A soft faint voice mumbles in the background talking to what sounds like a young boy. I open my eyes and see a short pail boy with bright red curly hair, I’ve never seen this little boy before, but I recognized his voice, almost like I’ve heard it in my dreams. I think back to when I was stuck inside my tiny little room, to when I was miserable everyday. I heard that voice down stairs in the kitchen, was he the one who took me? Was he working for the people who took me? At this moment I didn’t know what to do, I just closed my eyes and let myself drift off.

My Brother

My brother’s name is Paul. He lives in Puerto Rico. He is older than me. He is in college, but we will see him in the summer  when he graduates.

I like my brother because he plays with me, and he also taught me baseball. He is a happy person. He plays with me, and we have fun. He studies peoples bones in college. I think he lives with his grandmother. He drives to college.I don’t know where he lives right now, but when I was there, he lived in the mountains.I miss my brother because he’s in Puerto Rico.

Jiffy: Part 2

Jiffy now loved skydiving and wanted to do it again. There was only one problem, climbing back up to the counter without Edward seeing him. He would sneak around the side of the counter when Edward was making more popcorn and he would climb up the electric cord with his napkin and then he would jump off when he got to the top. After many successful skydives, he decided to go for the big jump… off the cabinet. He was climbing up the cabinet with an old piece of used floss that he found in the trash can. He threw it up and it wrapped around the handle and he started to climb the cabinet. When he got to the top he took out his trusty old napkin and tied it around him. He took a few steps back and started to run forward, he jumped off the cabinet and a few seconds later the napkin opened and he heard a loud rip. He started to go faster and then he looked up and realized why he was speeding up… there was a hole the size of a nickel. He hit the ground hard with a pop. He didn’t feel the same though. He felt as if he grew. He looked into the waxed floor and realized that he was no longer a kernel. He was a tasty piece of popcorn now. There was one downside of being popcorn though. Everyone wanted to eat you. Edward now wanted to eat Jiffy more than ever. There was also a new threat, crows. As Jiffy was trying out his new body he found out that if he got stepped on he would not stay his shape he would get flat. JIffy found that out by looking on the floor and seeing all his friends that Edward dropped. He had to get out of there! Jiffy was not running but not walking. He was kinda bouncing like bounce, bounce, bounce all through the house looking for a place to get out. When he was bouncing around he saw a trail of a liquid. He didn’t know what it was so he followed it. ‘’Maybe it’s my way out’’ he said.

The Return

The Plan

“Looking at the snow?” Berkeley opened his eyes and saw Nurse Mary grinning at him. “It’s quite lovely, isn’t it?” Berkeley sat up from the window sill and rubbed his eyes.

“Yeah it’s beautiful, I wish I could be out there.” Berkeley glanced out the window, below snow plowers trudged through the snow. Kids ran around the park throwing snowballs. Berkeley watched as one of the kids ran to the small playground for cover. Slowly, a little girl with brown hair showed up. Her pink and brown striped dress flowed in the wind as a woman with dark brown hair slowly pushed her. The laughter of the two echoed in Berkeley’s mind. He blinked as soon as he realized that Nurse Mary was staring at him. “Sorry, I dozed off.” He slowly got up and walked over to the cart, completely avoiding any interaction with Nurse Mary.

“Berkeley.” Nurse Mary crossed her arms and had a disappointed look written all over her face. Berkeley picked up the case which held his pills and turned around.

“What?” Berkeley watched as the quick retort made Nurse Mary frown. Nurse Mary was the only other person who believed that Cleo was still out there. Berkeley opened up the case and took his daily pills. Nurse Mary stood up and walked over to the cart and picked up a clipboard.

“Today you have a checkup at 10:00, therapy at 10:45, and we haven’t figured out what’s happening after that.” Nurse Mary glanced at Berkeley and laughed once he saw his concerned face. “I’ll see when your lunch is.” Nurse Mary gave Berkeley his breakfast and then rolled the cart out of the room. After waiting for about five minutes making sure that Nurse Mary was nowhere to be found, Berkeley got up and walked to the common room. He loved going there to hang out, all the colorful furniture gave him hope and never failed to make him happy.

“Hey Berkeley!” Berkeley looked up to see Ryan walking towards him. In his hand was a grey gaming computer he got from his mother.

“What do you have to show me?” Berkeley asked as he saw Ryan starting to open up his computer.

“So do you remember how we were saying it was like jail in here?” Ryan opened up his computer and a digital map appeared on the screen. “Well I found out how to get out.” Berkeley and Ryan always talked about escaping but never thought about it enough to put it into force. “All we have to do is wait until ten at night, walk down two flights of stairs and then walk out the back exit.” This was it. This was Berkeley’s chance to find Cleo. Ryan stared at Berkeley, waiting for his answer. Tomorrow he will be out in the city looking for his friend. He looked out the window and saw people scattering the streets, talking with their friends and family.

Berkeley smiled, “She’s out there, and I’m finally going to find her.”

May Be Uncomfortable for Some Readers

many stories have wizards and princesses, while others have feats of bravery. This story, well, my story isn’t like that. Nobodys is. I don’t know why you came here, nothing is positive about my story. PERIDOT. I live in a world where injections are given to everyone, or almost everyone just about once a month, to help us stay “happy”, or maybe “positive”. I used to be able to be happy without them, but that faded quickly when my mom died and I was stuck with my drugged up alcoholic dad.

I don’t remember what happiness feels like. Neither does anyone in my “group” I lost all real happiness as a kid. Most of us are commonly called, junkies, rebels, delinquents, rule breakers, satan’s spawn, and our personal favorite… the nobodys. We don’t feel happy, but we do our best to pretend so we can “fit in”. Our parents (otherwise known as no-dads) don’t pay for our injections, so this “generation” is mostly depressed using social media to spark what is known as “hope”. the closest feeling to happiness we can get. Our “movie stars” are people who never lost their innocence, no cuts, no depression, naturally happy.

That’s why the injections were made.So we could be “perfectly happy”. some people are happier than others only needing a real injection every two or three months apart. The “purge” is the last day of the year, 90-100 deaths that day, anybody under 18 cannot be killed, no emergency services, nothing. So, let me tell you a story-
