Musical.y was a social media that was released in april 2014. It was used to express yourself through lip syncing. Soon, the author of musical.ly, Alex Zhu, decided that he wanted to change it up and get a whole fresh start by changing the name and content. He decided to change it to Tiktok, a video-sharing social media that got released in 2017. The change got musical.ly users mad because of the new name and look. Soon people started to like it a lot more and enjoy watching videos, and making them too. Some people weren’t sure how it was going to do, but it turned out really good. When musical.ly stopped it was worth around $800 million and $1 billion. Now, Tiktok is worth over $75 billion. You might be wondering what the difference of the apps are, Tiktok provides more sounds, dances, and it pays you if you get verified. Which means you get a certain amount of followers and/or views. Many people have become famous from tiktok, some examples are Charli D’Amelio, Chase Hudson, Dixie D’Amelio, Addison Rae, and Avani Gregg. In just under a year, TikTok went from an unknown Chinese-developed app to one of the most popular social media platforms of all time.
