My First Riding Show

So this is Friday night, and this is the night before my first show where I am supposed to be doing a costume class where you and the horse dress up we were a fairy unicorn duo then 4 corners then around the world music goes then you flip around in the saddle then I am in a in barrel racing and pole bending.

The location of the show is always Columbia Riding Club I will be attending this show with my new horse Cookie her show name is High Hopes Cookies and Cream that is what they call if you win a ribbon. This is really stressful because when we bought her she had limited show experience. That kinda stressed me out because I didn’t know what to expect so at this time it is just preparing for the show packing the trailer, filling hay bags filling water containers, making sure she is well groomed, giving her lots of kisses and treats, getting my crap together, filling the trailer with shavings, polishing the saddle, bridal, and holter, and whatever else I think of, and literally preparing myself for being stressed out, and over all embarrassed of the fact that I don’t know how she is going to act. So the people at the barn and I were talking about maybe giving her a tiny tiny amount of a calming medicine just to give a little bit of calmness.

The one lady said that,” You would never know how she will react until you take her pure.”

So I decided that I would take her with no sedative. So it is 3:30 in the morning that I wake up to get my stuff together. So it is about 4 and we load the coolers and all the food chairs and stuff into the truck because the show is all day, which takes about an hour because I remember some other stuff I forgot like brading, garter straps, my ribbons that go in my hair, saddle polish, saddle conditioner, the little sponge things that are really fun to play with. And then we head to the barn and then with the pace my dad drives it is about 4:30.

So I get there look at my sister then we start talking and probably fighting on how we will divide stuff. We aren’t running around like chickens without heads cut off she obsessed over things like how he rolled the night before, or how he has poop stains all over him that we need to get off and then I cry because Cookie is white and every time she goes out to her pasture and rolls so at this point I am like in tears because she is light brown. It is starting to stress me out on all the stuff I need to pack. Things like spare halter ,clips to hang hay bags, clips to clip the trailer ok enough about all the stuff I have to pack to even feel semi- prepared.

So its like 6 now yes that is how long it takes me. So now it is the time where my sister’s thoroughbred Rio decided he doesn’t want to get on the trailer so it is a battle it is like Godzilla fighting an ant and like this is a like 900lb animal against my dad who is like maybe 200lb.This is the point where I just say god bless whoever is on the other end of that lead rope. We want his experience to be positive so we involve grain so he knows it is safe. So my sister would be in the trailer my dad would be guiding the horse and I would be at the back to close the gate and tap his butt like he is safe

“Come he boy get some grain come on so close,” she pleaded to her reluctant beast, again.

“Come on boy so close come on YESS!”

“Ok 4 tries not bad he is pretty calm today I like it.”

So after we get Rio loaded we put Cookie’s shipping boots on to protects her legs because Rio tends to kick so she was trained to walk right on the trailer so that is a battle avoided. Then my trainer got there my trainer’s name is Bree she is legit the best to work with like she lets you do what is comfortable and is a great person. She is going  with us because I don’t how she was gonna act the we were driving there we got there unloaded walked around she was a little bit of a handful. We did lunging and she started bolting and we tried again and she bolted and then she was calm, and then we had to legit paint her to look like a unicorn so we could win the class because dhe was a unicorn  I was put in was the mythical class, we got a little spooked in the middle of the class and did a little crow hoppity and stepped back and then got herself together. She went on with herself, and then we placed second and I was mad because second is the fist to loose but no expectation because it is her first show I was a bit embarrassed. I should have prepared her more like doing a show before this so at this point I was a little worried because she was very skittish and unsure. We warmed up she was a crackhead just like me, so my trainer rode and she was crazy and I didn’t want to embarrass myself, so I scratched my classes I was crying because I wanted to do them.

So at this point my trainer and I were talking and she said,”when I was your age I was in 4h to and I loved showing, but my horse didnt and people pushed me so hard I cracked and I quit and my horse was tramatised, I don’t want the same fot you so do what is best for you and cookie,”

My only fear was that I would never go to a show again I and my future involves showing so there for my future would be down the drain so then we went home and I came home with ribbons in all classes even if they were ninths. So now it is January 6 and i took her to a show and she did great so lots of pratice makes perfect and do what is best for you not what anyone else wants you to do.So this is Friday night, and this is the night before my first show where I am supposed to be doing a costume class where you and the horse dress up we were a fairy unicorn duo then 4 corners then around the world music goes then you flip around in the saddle then I am in a in barrel racing and pole bending.
