From the book Rising Above by GREGORY ZUCKERMAN, ELIJAH ZUCKERMAN and GABRIEL ZUCKERMAN
Curry’s early basketball career, He was only 17 years old and not a single college( I didn’t even know this.)wanted him, His father Dell Curry played in the NBA and Steph wanted to follow his father’s footprints and also become an NBA player. Steph kept hearing people were saying he was too tiny and skinny to play Divison 1 basketball, top college level, Steph still even had a boyish look that makes him appear younger. He still couldn’t even pick up the ball and shoot properly and he still shot under instead of rising the ball. Which gave him a disadvantage as a shooter. His father Dell Curry his father had been a first-round who played 16 years in the NBA and played for 5 different teams,6ft 4 shooting guard, Steph, and his younger brother (Seth is also is in the NBA and is currently playing for the Dallas Mavericks) attended as many of their father’s games. In 8th grade, Steph started to have a passion for basketball and concentrated more on it. By the time Steph was a sophomore in high school.
He was too small, he was 5ft 6 cv bg and only weighed 125 lbs, on every single team he played on he was the smallest guy. His shooting motion was still well below his waist because he lacked the strength. Then his father gave him some advice saying “if you want to play in the college you’re going to have to pick up the ball above your head”. He liked his shot tho, Steph took the summer off from his usual activities, even from playing pickup games, to focus on reinventing his jump shot he didn’t realize how difficult the process would be. He and his father practiced and practiced on a hoop in their backyard. But Steph didn’t seem to make much progress. Some nights ended in tears.
They broke it down to the point where he couldn’t even shoot at all.
It was a tough summer for Steph. Steph shot wasn’t even far off the ground of his jump.
Then later on Steph could release the ball lightning fast, in little as 0.3 seconds, after all the practice Steph could shoot with a sharp arc.
His junior year he averaged nearly 20 points a game he also gotten a late growth spurt and now weighs 160 lbs and grew half afoot and gained 35 lbs in 2 years. Now Steph is on the road to success but still, not a single college wanted him until the coach of Davidson but he barley wanted Steph until he saw him played and saw the talent in Steph which convinced him that Steph could be a star at Davison you can see the character, the poise, the work ethic, toughness, and resiliency had Coach McKillop and had contacted him to enroll at Davidson, offering him a full scholarship.
Coach Mckillop was the first college to make Steph feel wanted.
Now to the kid who many had thought had little to no chance of making the NBA was officially a star, finishing the year with 24 pts and 8.5 assists a game at the end of the 2014 and 15 season, Steph was named the NBA’s Most Valuable Player, adding to his resume to an elite player to cap off his incredible season, Steph led the warriors to victory in the NBA finals, defeating LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers. Steph also had become one of the league’s most popular players, with the 2nd highest selling jersey at that, at least. Steph was on his way to setting NBA records by the end of the 2015 calendar year there was no active or retired player who’d attempted more than 2,000 3pointers. Later on, Steph had said “if you dream big and work hard, you’ll see results,” Steph said with a big smile.”It’s the hard work that separates you.”
(What I knew before)
Steph was offered a contract by Nike and he accepted it and, but the one thing he asked for was his slogan which was “I can do all things”, but Nike didn’t like that so Steph declined the offer, then under armor like his idea and now curry has his own shoe with his slogan.
