“ How did you manage to fail another test! , my mother said sternly. “ Lydia stop staring out the window and listen to me! “ What “ , I said annoyed that I could not see my friend Michelle for the weekend again. “ This is serious you can not go on like this”, she said angrily.
After another lecture what felt like forever, I was banished to my room once again. But I wasn’t going to let that stop me from seeing my friend. All I have to do is climb out the window. When my parents finally went to bed I climbed out. It was not too difficult. There was a sturdy Cedar tree right next to my room, and I was pretty good climber. So I did it.
As I was walking to Michelle’s house, I walked past the abandoned stables. I noticed something odd right away. There was a light that looked like it was coming from a flashlight. “That’s weird,” I said to myself. “ I thought the stables had been abandoned for more than 30 years and they are in bad shape.” “ What would someone be doing there at night. ‘“ I decided to call Michelle that I would be a little late coming over. “ Wait I want to come too,” she said excitedly.“ Ok just hurry up ,“ I said urgently.
“ Ok so where are we going “ , Michelle said out of breath. “ Down there,” I said pointing at the abandoned stables. “ I see the light Michelle,” said eagerly. “ Wait .” I said. We can’t risk being seen. We have to be sneaky. “ “ Follow me.” “ Who is that, “ Michelle said curiously. “Don’t know, I can’t get a good look at him. Wait I know how we can find out , come to my house,” I said.
We both climbed up the tree next to my window and sneaked into my room. We found a newspaper article on my computer. “ Boy sees rare albino deer ?” I said confused. “ No not that, this,” she said .” As she scrolled down the page, I understood immediately who it was. “ That guy in the stables is a burglar , I said shocked. “ We should have called the police, when we saw the light. Why did ‘nt you call the police?” “Hmm…. we need to think of a plan to catch him, “ I said. “ What “ , Michelle shrieked ,scared. “ And how are we supposed to do that? We are only 14 Lydia!” “ So what! Fourteen year olds can solve mysteries to,” I said. “Ok, let’s do it. Let’s figure it out tomorrow,” Michelle said seriously.
As I woke up the next morning, I heard a startling crash in the basement. “ That’s not Mom! Mom is on her way to the vet with my dog Marigold. And Dad is already at work, “ I said out loud. Maybe it was Shannon my older sister, I thought. I finally gathered up all my courage to see if it was Shannon. But when I looked down the basement railing…It was not her! It, it was the burglar!
I panicked. I didn’t know what to do, so finally I called Michelle. “ Call the police!” She said urgently. I couldn’t take it anymore! He was trying to take our giant tv! After I called the police, I noticed that he barely moved the tv an inch! I hid myself, and watched him struggle to move the tv. Hopefully, his wrestling with the tv would give the police time to get there. Soon the police got to my house and arrested the burglar.
A week after the attempted burglary, I was a star in the town. I even was awarded some money. Without me and help from Michelle the police would have never caught the burglar.
